Crafting When It's Too Cold Outside

Posted on 02-02-2017

When Mother Nature orders you to stay inside, don’t despair. From delicious goodies to winter works of art, there are endless craft projects to entertain kids of all ages. We’ve compiled a few ideas for you and your youngsters to try out below.

Create a bookmark: One of the best ways to stay warm on a winter day is by snuggling up with a wonderful book. If your kiddos are stuck on story time, they’ll love getting to create their very own bookmarks. Using Popsicle sticks or sturdy slips of construction paper, you can construct a unique, personalized bookmark that will unlock your preschooler’s imagination and get them excited about reading.

Homemade Snow Globe: To create your own snow globe, simply take a glass mason jar (with an screw-on lid) and super glue a plastic figurine of your choice to the bottom of the jar. Some popular ideas range anywhere from favorite movie characters, animals, and superheroes to frosty figurines such as snowmen. Add water and glitter to the jar, shake it, and watch your child’s eyes light up as their homemade snow globe sparkles and shines.

White Chocolate Peppermint Pretzels: Your entire family will enjoy chowing down on this winter treat just as much as they’ll enjoy making it. All you need to achieve this sweet snack is melted white chocolate chips, crushed peppermint candy canes, and a bag of pretzels. Simply dip the pretzels in the white chocolate, sprinkle on the peppermint, and let your tray of pretzels sit for 45 minutes to an hour. These frosty, fun-size snacks pair wonderfully with a comforting cup of hot chocolate.

The next time Old Man Winter orders you indoors, be ready! Kids of all ages—and their parents too!—will have a blast doing these three activities.
